Hello Draftbit. 👋
Thank you for the opportunity to apply for the Product Designer role.
Everyone has a unique story and scenario, but I wanted to take just a minute to share with you why I have submitted my resume and think that this job would be such a great fit.

1ST, A STORY
It was about 8 or 9 years ago when I heard the interview with Kevin Systrom from Instagram fame that sparked my obsession with product (and specifically, app) design.
Kevin talked about the magic of Instagram. The filters were great. The social aspect was good. But beyond all of the surface features in the app, the magic was actually in separating the posting process into 2 screens.
By moving the text that would accompany the image onto a separate pane, it allowed the app to start uploading the image in the background.
Back then, we would all sit and look at the loading bar while uploading a photo on mobile. This was the first mobile product that made it feel like the upload went instantaneously.
Any app could have created interesting filters with accompanying text. The magic feeling that you get at posting and seeing that it is already uploaded means that you will come back to do it again.
THIS MAGIC HAS INFORMED MY CREATIVE IMPULSE
Ever since this, I’ve created products and helped others plan and create products with this obsession for finding and facilitating the magic. In creating my own app and then advising countless others, there is always a way to do the tough work in design to make it simple and to work like magic in the hands of a user.
The unique part of my story is that apart from the last year, I worked for 10 years in a church. I still write and preach sometimes on Sundays, but it was about six years ago that I founded an app company and created an app for youth ministries. I did the product design, marketing and support while my co-founder was the primary developer.
A few years ago, that partner decided to exit the company. Over the next six to twelve months, I learned a lot about vetting devs, managing projects and moving an undocumented codebase from obj-c/core data to react native/realm. Finally launching the Android app alongside a re-engineered iOS app and creating an amazing experience for our users made all of the systems and management worth it.
This Product Designer role seems to be an incredible move in the right direction based on my strengths and passions (see my strengths to the right).
And all four Draftbit values–joy, craftsmanship, empathy and collaboration–these are the definition of what I am looking for in a company and product worth pouring my time and energy into.
I am looking forward to hearing back and hopefully working together soon.
